A. Flooring System — Lumber or plywood subfloor with finish floor of lumber, plywood or Floor Topping Mixture* as specified in the individual Floor-Ceiling Design. Max diam of floor opening is 4-3/4 in.
B. Wood Joists — Nom 10 in. deep (or deeper) lumber, steel or combination lumber and steel joists, trusses or Structural Wood Members* with bridging as required and with ends firestopped.
C. Gypsum Board* — Nom 5/8 in. thick as specified in the individual Floor-Ceiling Design. Wallboard secured to joists as specified in the individual Floor-Ceiling Design.
2. Chase Wall — The through penetrant (Item 3) shall be routed through a 1 hr fire-rated single, double or staggered wood stud/gypsum wallboard chase wall constructed of the materials and in the manner specified in the individual U300 Series Wall and Partition Designs in the UL Fire Resistance Directory and shall include the following construction features:
A. Studs — Nom 2 by 6 in. lumber or double nom 2 by 4 in. lumber studs.
B. Sole Plate — Nom 2 by 6 in. lumber or parallel 2 by 4 in. lumber plates, tightly butted.
C. Top Plate — The double top plate shall consist of two nom 2 by 6 in. lumber plates or two sets of nom 2 by 4 in. lumber plates, tightly butted. Max diam of opening is 4-3/4 in.
D. Gypsum Board* — Thickness, type, number of layers and fasteners shall be as specified in individual Wall and Partition Design.
3. Through Penetrants — One nonmetallic pipe to be installed either concentrically or eccentrically within the firestop system. Diam of the circular opening in flooring, and top and sole plates of chase wall shall be 1/8 to 1/4 in. larger than the diam of the pipe such that the annular space is min 0 in. (point contact) to max 1/4 in. Pipe to be rigidly supported on both sides of floor-ceiling assembly. The following types and sizes of nonmetallic pipes may be used:
A. Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) Pipe — Nom 4 in. diam (or smaller) Schedule 40 cellular or solid core PVC pipe for use in closed (process or supply) or vented (drain, waste or vent) piping system.
B. Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) Pipe — Nom 4 in. diam (or smaller) Schedule 40 cellular or solid core ABS pipe for use in closed (process or supply) or vented (drain, waste or vent) piping systems.
C. Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride (CPVC) Pipe — Nom 4 in. diam (or smaller) SDR17 CPVC pipe for use in closed (process or supply) or vented (drain, waste or vent) piping systems.
3A. Sanitary Tee — (Optional) — The vertical pipe (Item 3) may be provided with a Schedule 40 PVC, ABS or CPVC sanitary tee above the top plate of the chase wall for connection to a nom 4 in. diam (or smaller) Schedule 40 PVC, ABS or CPVC drain pipe which runs horizontally through the concealed space above the ceiling and penetrates the flooring. Diam of the circular opening in the flooring shall be 1/8 to 1/4 in. larger than the diam of the pipe such that the annular space is min 0 in. (point contact) to max 1/4 in.
4. Fill, Void or Cavity Material* — Caulk — Min 3/8 in. diam of fill material applied around base of pipe at top of plywood subfloor or sole plate, and bottom of lower top plate. Fill material kneaded into annular space to max extent possible, leaving a min 1/4 in. crown around penetrating item and lapping a min 1/4 in. beyond the periphery of the opening. RECTORSEAL — Biostop 500+ Caulk

4A. Fill, Void or Cavity Material* — Wrap Strip — (Not Shown) — As an alternate to Item 4 above, nom 1/4 in. thick by 1 in. wide intumescent wrap strips may be used at the bottom surface of the lower top plate of the chase wall. When wrap strips are used, the chase wall shall be constructed of nom 2 by 8 or double nom 2 by 4 lumber studs, and top and sole plates. The wrap strip is continuously wrapped around the outer circumference of the pipe below the top plates of the wall according to the table below, secured with aluminum tape and slid into annular space such that the bottom surface of the wrap strip is flush with the bottom surface of the lower top plate. When multiple wrap strips are used to achieve the required total length, the ends are to be butted end-to-end and held in place with aluminum tape. RECTORSEAL — Biostop Wrap Strip

4B. Firestop Device* — (Not Shown) — As an alternate to Items 4 and 4A above, firestop device may be used at the bottom surface of the lower top plate of the chase wall. When firestop device is used, the nom annular space at top plates of chase wall shall be 1/4 in. In addition, the chase wall shall be constructed of nom 2 by 8 or double nom 2 by 4 lumber studs, and top and sole plates. Firestop device consists of a galv steel collar lined with an intumdescent material sized to fit specific diam of the through penetrant. Device to be installed around through penetrant in accordance with accompanying installation instructions. Device incorporates anchor tabs for securement to underside of the chase wall top plate by means of No. 10 by 1-1/2 in. particle board screws in conjunction with 1/4 in. by 5/8 in. washers. Device to be secured at each tab. RECTORSEAL — Biostop Pipe Collar
